IN SHORT

Who we are

Builtingh (builtingh.com, “we”, “us”) is a public showcase of apps, websites, software, digital art and content made by Ghanaians. Anyone can browse it; people who sign in with Google can publish their projects, upvote, save, comment and follow creators.

This policy explains what personal information we collect when you use builtingh.com, including through Google Sign-In, why we collect it, how we use and share it, how long we keep it, and the choices you have. It applies to everyone who visits or signs in. Questions go to privacy@builtingh.com.

Who sees what

PUBLIC · ANYONE CAN SEE

PRIVATE · NOT SHOWN ON THE SITE

From the policy · Sharing

Your name, username, profile picture, bio, social links, approved projects, and project statistics are publicly visible to all visitors.

What we collect

From Google, when you sign in

Your name.

Used as the display name on your Builtingh profile and on the projects you publish. You can change it in Settings.

Your email address.

Used to identify your account and to send you account emails. It is never shown publicly.

Your profile picture.

Used as your avatar until you upload your own.

Your Google account ID.

A unique number from Google that lets you sign in to the same Builtingh account each time.

What you give us

Profile details.

Your username, bio and social or website links, shown on your public profile, and a custom avatar if you upload one.

Projects.

Titles, descriptions, categories, links, the tools you used, screenshots, videos, logos and team members you add. Published projects are public.

Activity.

The projects you upvote, save, comment on or add to collections, and the creators you follow. Comments and public collections are visible to others; saves are private to you.

Messages to us.

Feedback, content reports and anything you send through the contact form or by email, including your browser details when you send feedback, so we can look into problems.

Newsletter sign-up.

Your name and email address if you subscribe to the weekly newsletter, which you can do without an account.

Collected automatically

Project views.

When you are signed in and open a project page, we record that your account viewed it and where on Builtingh you came from (for example Discover or search), so each person is counted once. Creators see only totals, never who viewed their work.

IP address.

Read on each request to limit how often actions can be repeated, which protects the site from spam and abuse. It is held for about one minute and is not linked to your account.

Site analytics.

Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights tell us which pages are visited and how fast they load, in aggregate. They do not use cookies and do not identify you.

Cookies.

Essential cookies keep you signed in and remember preferences such as light or dark mode. See Cookies below.

We do not collect payment details, government ID numbers, precise location, or any sensitive personal data, and we ask you not to put such information in your profile or projects.

Google user data

What we access.

When you sign in with Google we receive your name, email address, profile picture and Google account ID, using Google’s openid, email and profile permissions. We do not request access to Gmail, Drive, Contacts, Calendar or any other Google data, and we cannot post or act on your behalf.

How we use it.

To create and secure your Builtingh account and sign you in; to show your name and profile picture on your public profile and the projects you publish; and to send account emails to your address, such as when a project goes live. We use it for nothing else.

Who it’s shared with.

Nobody, beyond what you choose to make public on your profile. It is stored with Supabase, our database and sign-in provider, and your email address is passed to Resend only to deliver the emails we send you. We don’t sell, rent or trade it, and we don’t transfer it to anyone else except where the law requires it.

What we never do.

We do not use Google user data for advertising, sell it to data brokers or anyone else, use it to decide credit-worthiness or for lending, or use it to develop, improve or train generalised AI or machine-learning models. Nobody at Builtingh reads it except to keep the service secure, to deal with abuse, to comply with the law, or with your permission when you ask for help.

How it’s protected.

It is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and at rest by our database provider, and database access rules limit each record to its owner and to the few administrators who run the site.

Keeping and deleting it.

We keep it for as long as you have an account. Deleting your account from Settings → Account removes it and revokes Builtingh’s access to your Google account; copies in our provider’s short-term backups are overwritten on its normal cycle. You can also remove Builtingh’s access at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions.

Builtingh’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

How we use it

To run your account.

Creating your account, signing you in, and keeping it secure.

To show your work.

Displaying your public profile and the projects you publish to everyone who visits Builtingh.

To moderate.

Reviewing submissions and reports, and removing content or accounts that break our Terms of Service.

To keep you informed.

Sending account emails (for example when a project goes live, is taken down or gets an upvote) and, if you subscribed, the newsletter. You can turn notification emails off in Settings → Notifications and unsubscribe from the newsletter with the link in any issue.

To show creators their numbers.

Turning views, upvotes and saves into the statistics creators see on their dashboard.

To protect the site.

Preventing spam, fraud and abuse, and keeping the service reliable.

To improve Builtingh.

Understanding, in aggregate, which pages and features are used so we can make them better.

To meet legal obligations.

Responding to lawful requests and enforcing our terms.

Sharing

Public information.

Your name, username, profile picture, bio, links, published projects, public collections, comments and project statistics are visible to everyone who visits Builtingh, and may be indexed by search engines. Your email address is never shown publicly.

Service providers

We use a small number of companies to run Builtingh. They process data only on our instructions and only to provide their service to us.

Google.

Provides sign-in. Google tells us your name, email address, profile picture and account ID when you sign in.

Supabase.

Hosts our database, sign-in sessions and uploaded files. All account and project data is stored there.

Resend.

Delivers our emails. It receives your email address, your name and the content of each email we send you.

Vercel.

Provides anonymous page analytics and performance measurements. It does not receive your account details.

Upstash.

Runs our rate limiting. It briefly receives your IP address and nothing else.

Legal reasons.

We may disclose information if required by law, or where needed to protect the rights, safety or property of our users or the public.

If Builtingh changes hands.

If Builtingh is merged or transferred, your information would move with it under this policy, and we would let you know.

We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information, and we do not show ads.

How long we keep it

Your account, profile and projects.

Kept while your account exists, and deleted when you delete your account.

Data from Google Sign-In.

Kept with your account and deleted with it; deleting your account also revokes Builtingh’s access to your Google account.

Comments, upvotes, saves and follows.

Kept until you remove them or delete your account.

Newsletter subscription.

Kept until you unsubscribe.

Feedback, reports and messages.

Kept only as long as needed to deal with them.

IP addresses for rate limiting.

Held for about one minute, then discarded.

Project views and statistics.

Kept with each project and deleted with it, or with your account.

Backups.

Our database provider keeps short-term backups for recovery; deleted data leaves them as they are overwritten on its normal cycle.

Security

  • All traffic is encrypted with HTTPS
  • Sign-in uses Google’s OAuth 2.0; we never see or store your Google password
  • Data is encrypted at rest by our database provider
  • Row Level Security rules limit every table to the people allowed to see each record
  • Administrator access is limited to the people who run Builtingh

No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. If we learn of a breach that affects your information, we will tell affected users promptly.

Your rights and choices

See and correct your data.

Your profile and projects can be viewed and edited at any time in your dashboard and in Settings → Account.

Get a copy.

Email privacy@builtingh.com from your account’s address and we will send you a copy of your data.

Delete your account.

Settings → Account → Delete account removes your profile, projects, uploads, comments and other activity, and revokes Builtingh’s access to your Google account.

Remove Google access.

You can also disconnect Builtingh from your Google account at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions.

Control emails.

Turn notification emails on or off in Settings → Notifications, and unsubscribe from the newsletter with the link in any issue.

Object or ask a question.

Contact privacy@builtingh.com. We aim to reply within 30 days.

Cookies

We use only essential cookies and local storage: to keep you signed in, to remember preferences such as light or dark mode, and to protect the site from abuse. We don’t use advertising cookies or cross-site tracking.

Our analytics (Vercel Analytics) do not use cookies. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, but you will then need to sign in again and some features may not work.

Also

Children.

Builtingh is not for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has signed up, contact us and we will delete the account.

Where data is stored.

Our providers may store and process information outside Ghana, including in the United States and the European Union. We use providers that protect it to the standards in this policy.

Changes.

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top, and for significant changes we will notify signed-in users by email or on the site before they take effect.
